Suspense?!!!
25th THEATRE DAYS - March 30th to April 5th, 2009
You go to the theatre, you watch a play. It does not leave you indifferent, you react, you cannot behave differently than to deliver your judgement and to criticise. First impressions, reactions strongly categorise: fast-pace, doggy, comical, intense, fascinating and the most common and rapid judgement persists: boring and exciting. Everything can be exciting: the light, the scenography, the music, the costumes, the mask, the figures and the skills of the actors, the story and its plot.
But even a good story can become in spite of good actors an aweful boring theatre evening, when the dramaturgy, the direction and the cheography are not able to build up and to keep the suspense. Suspense needs relaxation and vice-versa. Decisive factors of the overall concept are the dramatugy and direction. If 100 directors work on one and the same piece, you will discover 100 different interpretations.
Competition in direction for the first time
In order that a theatre festival continues to be exciting after 25 years, it continously has to come up with something new, it has to reinvent itself every now and then. 2009 there will take place a theatre festival with a direction and dramaturgy competition on Saturday, April 4th.
